Ayurvedic Treatment
for Diabetes

As per Ayurveda Diabetes is a metoabolic disorder caused by imbalance in the tri doshas. According to ayurveda there are two types of diabetes – Sahaja and Doshaja. Sahaja refers to natural, which occers due to inherited or congenetal factors. Doshaja type of the Diabetes are the result of dosa vitiation. Doshaja can be Vataja, Pitaja and Kaphaja.In srigram Ayurveda we aim to treat Diabetes not only with Ayurvedic medication but also with appropriate panchakarma therapies, life style modification, diet management, Yoga and Pranayama. The panchakarma treatments for Diabetes varies depending on individual’s constitution, the imbalance of doshas and the strength and health status of a person.Some panchakarma treatments that we do for Diabetes are

  • Vamana – The process focusses on therapeutic  vomiting and vamana is shrestha chikitsa for Kaphaja disorders. It improves metaboism, decreases Kapha dosha and helps in balancing body sugar leverls.

  • Virechana – It is the purgation therapy that is the best treatment for pitta dosha and cleans the gastro intestinal track. It improves digestive activity, metabolism and detoxifies the body. 
  • Vasti – It is the medicated enema that cleanes the colon and best treatment for Vata dosha. Its helpul in improving insulin sensitivity. 

Tyes of Diabetes

Type 1 DM – Its an auto immune diesase in which body’s  immune system attacks and destroys insulin producing cells. In Type 1 Diabetes pancreas produces little or no insulin. 10 percent of te people who have Diabetes have Type 1.

Type 2 DM – In this type the body does not make enough insulin or body cells don’t repond normally to the insulin. It’s the most common form of Diabetes.

Gestational diabetes – This type develops in some people during pregnancy. It usually goes away afer pregnancy.

Pre – Diabetes – This is the stage  before  Type 2 diabetes. Your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be officially diagnosed with Type 2 DM

Diabetes Mellitus

Causes 

  • Obesity
  • Family history of Diabetes
  • Pancreatitis 
  • Lack of physical activities
  • High consumption of saturated fat
  • Excess Alcohol consumption

Symptoms

  • Urinating often 
  • losing weight without planned diet and exercise 
  • filling more thirsty than usual
  • filling tired and weak with little work
  • Blurry vision 
  • slow healing of sores
  • suffering from a lot of infection

Pathya (Do)

  • Follow timely meal schedule 
  • Have freshly prepared warm food 
  • Take butter milk instead of  milk and curd
  • broken wheat (daliya), Millets, Jowar   should be included in the daily diet 
  • moderate levels of exercise or 30 min of brisk walking both in morning and evening is advisable.

Apathya (Don't)

  • Avoid refrigerated, deep oily fried, salty, spicy and canned food Items
  • Avoid curd, panner, cheese, sweets and sour foods
  • Reduce excess use potato, cauliflower, green peas and maida products 
  • Reduce taking excess carbohydrate rich foods like rice, cakes
  • Avoid jackfruit, mango, sugarcane and other sweet fruit juices
  • Avoid daytime sleeping
