Spondylopathies

Spondylopathies are disorder of vertebrae .  Spondylopathies where inflammation of vertebrae occurs known as spondylitis . Spondylosis is the word for arthritis of the spine, the result of wear and tear on both the soft structures and bones (vertebrae).

Spondylosis is more frequently seen in the spines highest and lowest section – the cervical(neck) & lumbar (lower back) areas respectively. If it’s seen in the neck region it’s known as cervical spondylosis & if it’s seen in lower back region it’s known as lumbar spondylosis .

CAUSES

  1. People who have the HLA-B27 gene more than 90% of people with spondylitis have this gene.
  2. With increasing age the stress in the joints of spine increases , that causes all the degenerative disc diseases.
  3. Spondylopathy can be caused by previous traumas .
  4. Prolonged bad posture can caused cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis .
  5. Stress
  6. Other risk factors 
    • Family history
    • Age with most people developing symptoms before age 45
    • Having crohn’s dissase

 

SYMPTOMS

Cervical spondylopathy

  1. Neck pain and stiffness
  2. Numbness & tingling sensation down the arm
  3. Weakness or impaired motor function in the arms or hands.

Lumbar spondylopathy

  1. Lower back pain & stiffness
  2. Pain may 
    • Get better with exercise but stay the same or get worse with rest
    • Get worse in the morning & evening
    • Wake you up at night
    • Be felt around the buttocks 
    • Improve with warmth like luke warm water 

 PATHYA-(DO)

Lumbar spondylopathy

  1. Avoid lumbar flexion .
  2. Sleeping in hard surface 
  3. Regular exercise & yoga for strengthening muscle & joints
  4. Good posture

Cervical spondylopathy

  1. Yoga & exercise to increase flexibility and strength of joints
  2. Maintain good posture while sitting and walking and avoid leaning .
  3. have proper diet and nutrition to reduce and prevent excessive weight 
  4. sleep on your side to reduce any curve in the spinal cord.
  5. Take small breaks from activities that affect your neck like working on a computer or watching TV.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin disorder that causes inflammation  , redness and scaling  of the skin . The scales are usually silvery in appearance and can turn into red patches that are thick . If opened , it may bleed . It’s an autoimmune disorder that occurs when body’s immune system attacks own body cells . Some factors like stress , physical injuries, medications for hypertension and infections can trigger the symptoms of psoriasis .

APATHYA (DON’T)

Lumbar spondylopathy

  1. Avoid bike riding
  2. Avoid using indian toilet
  3. Avoid weight lifting
  4. Avoid katu , ruksa, aahara
  5. Avoid exses traveling.

Cervical spondylopathy

  1. Working on a computer for a long time
  2. Tight clothing
  3. Stress
  4. Don’t tilt your head down while reading
  5. Smoking
